Abstract: This study was aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of safety management system (SMS) in a liquefied natural gas company. A 5-point Likert questionnaire ranging from “strongly disagree to strongly agree” questions was used to evaluate workers’ perception?of?the implication of safety management system in the organisation. The OHSAS 18001 internal audit checklist was also used to measure the level of compliance?with?the requirements of the SMS. Secondary data was obtained from document and safety report of the case study. The data was collated and subjected to descriptive statistics, t-test and row and column contingency (R & C) table to evaluate the relationship between safety performance and compliance. For compliance to SMS:?General requirements, 91%; Health and Safety Policy, 95%; Planning, 93%, Implementation and Operation, 98%; Audit, 98%; and Management Review, 93%. The overall average level of compliance was 95%. 100 respondents participated in the questionnaire, 64 males and 36 females; 68 technical personnel and 32 nontechnical respondents. Descriptive analysis of employees’ perception resulted in:?Safety satisfaction and feedback, 4.113; Training and competence, 4.182; Safety reporting and investigation, 4.212; Work Duties/Pressure, 3.989; Management commitment, 4.098; Safety communication, 4.171; and Emergency response and planning, 4.126. t-test indicated that there?was?no significant difference?in?perception?between?males and females,
Sensitivity Analysis of Dengue Model with Saturated Incidence Rate  [PDF]

Open Access Library Journal (OALib Journal) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/oalib.1104413
Abstract:
Dengue is a flavivirus, transmitted to human through the bites of infected Aedes aegypti and A. albopictus mosquitoes. In this paper, we analyze a new system of ordinary differential equations which incorporates saturated incidence function, vector biting rate and control measures at both the aquatic and adult stages of the vector (mosquito). The stability of the system is analysed for the dengue-free equilibrium via the threshold parameter (reproduction number) which was obtained using the Next generation matrix techniques. Routh Hurwitz criterion along together with Descartes’ rule of signs change established the local asymptotically stability of the model whenever R0<1and unstable otherwise. Furthermore, the sensitivity analysis was carried out and the numerical simulation reveals that increasing the proportion of human antibody and putting into place a control strategy that minimize the vector biting rate are enough to reduce the infection of the disease in the population to its barest minimum.
Currencies, Constraints and Contradictions of South Africa’s Soft Power

Abstract: Despite increasing interest in South Africa’s soft power in recent years, little analysis is offered on the factors that hinder the projection of such soft power. Most studies have focused on the sources and the optimization of South Africa’s soft power. While this article gives a synoptic account of these sources, it offers a different perspective by engaging the constraints and contradictions that hinder and circumscribe its soft power projection. The article concludes that, in order to maximize its soft power projection, Pretoria must address the impediments that continue to undermine its power of attraction
Boko Haram Terrorism and Counter

Abstract: Given terrorists’ use of violence in pursuit of their objectives and violent counter-terrorism measures, terrorism is not often associated with soft power. Nevertheless, terrorist organisations subscribe to ideologies that are appealing to certain individuals and/or segments within their immediate environment and beyond. Similarly, counter-terrorism initiatives that embrace the utility of soft power might be more successful than those that rely on the use of naked force. While the soft power of terrorist organisations has received scant attention, there has been modest scholarly inquiry into a soft power approach to counter-terrorism. However, no comprehensive research has been conducted on the place of soft power in Boko Haram’s activities and the Nigerian government’s efforts to end their campaign. This article offers a new perspective to the burgeoning literature on Boko Haram terrorism by examining whether or not it possesses elements of soft power that are appealing to certain Nigerians. It also examines if the Nigerian government has adopted a soft power approach in its counter-terrorism efforts. The article concludes that effectively tackling the sect will require a smart power strategy
Agenda 2063 and Its Implications for Africa’s Soft Power

- , 2018, DOI: 10.1177/0021934718780489
Abstract: Africa has struggled to counteract the negative images (ranging from diseases to war, terrorism, poverty, and crime) that it evokes in the eyes of the global audience. This has punctured Africa’s soft power potential and undermined its influence in the global arena, creating the need for the development of a strong and acceptable normative and strategic framework. In this regard, Agenda 2063’s strong commitment to the African Renaissance and a different and better Africa is critical. The article thus examines the potential of Agenda 2063’s Aspirations 3, 4, and 5 to enhance the continent’s soft power and boost its standing in the international system
Influence of Margarine and/or Coconut Oil on Quality of Bread Prepared from Wheat Flour

- , 2017,
Abstract: Unrefined coconut oil was obtained from mature kernel of coconut by cold press method. The oil was substituted for margarine at 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% levels (w/w) in bread production. The effects of added unrefined coconut oil on chemical, physical and sensorial qualities of bread were evaluated. The bread samples had moisture (28.15- 28.80%), protein (9.0-9.2%), ash (1.13–1.27%), fiber (1.29-1.45%), fat (3.6-4.6%), carbohydrate (55.6-56.9%) and energy (295.3- 300.3 kcal/g). The mineral elements were in a range of calcium (52.22-63.21 mg/kg), magnesium (311.91-347.99 mg/kg), potassium (1149.50-1630.20 mg/kg), sodium (2363.6-2453.6mg/kg) and iron (68.12-82.45 mg/kg). Physical properties showed increased loaf weight but less loaf volume and specific volume with increased unrefined coconut oil replacement. There was significant difference between the bread samples in terms of crust colour and crumb appearance. Bread samples with inclusion levels up to 75% (w/w) unrefined coconut oil were acceptable to the consumer sensory panel. However, there is tendency for some consumers to prefer lower levels of inclusion; it is pragmatic therefore to recommend inclusion of 25–75% unrefined coconut oil to replace margarine in commercial bread

Earth Science Research , 2012, DOI: 10.5539/esr.v1n2p117
Abstract: Physical parameters of limestone in Ewekoro formation, south-western Nigeria were determined via direct laboratory method. The permeability and bulk density values obtained range from 1.47 to 7.99 and 1.26 to 1.90 respectively. The resistivity values of the limestone samples collected from the study site were obtained by laboratory direct method and the result revealed that the resistivity values fall within 6 and 171. These values correlate favorably with the results obtained from electrical resistivity method of geophysical prospecting of the study area. The two approaches showed a good degree of correlation in the resistivity value of the limestone and their varying qualities. This research work further showed the occurrence of vast deposit of limestone, which can be of economic importance in mining and for industrial purposes.

Pakistan Journal of Social Sciences , 2012,
Abstract: This study examined the relationship between availability of resources and pupils` learning outcome in primary schools in Ekiti State, Nigeria. A descriptive research design was adopted in the study. A questionnaire and inventory format designed by the researchers were used to collect data from a sample of 300 primary school head-teachers randomly selected from 935 primary schools in the State. The data collected were analysed using frequency counts, percentage scores and Pearson Product Moment Correlation. All the 4 null hypotheses raised were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed that availability of resources, human resources, instructional materials and physical facilities were not significantly related to pupils` learning outcome. Based on the findings, it was recommended that the resources made available to the primary schools should be efficiently utilized in order to improve pupils` learning outcome.
